Mysterious online slot game — GCCans review by Evan Carrington
Released in 2020, Mysterious places a spooky theme across 243 up to 4096-ways-to-win on 4x4 and 6x4 reels. Its free spins open additional ways to win and multipliers, while 3 distinct wild symbols in the base game bring stacked and spreading wilds, along with multipliers, to the reels.
Theme and story
Play takes you to 19th century England, where the Victorian city is overtaken by ghostly events and ‘The Lord’, ‘The Lady’, and ‘The Baron’ haunt the reels. Their appearance may seem unsettling at first, but these figures serve as win features rather than simple scares.
Graphics, sounds and animations
Pragmatic Play gives Mysterious a dark Victorian city backdrop, complete with a haunted house on a hill, animated lightning, whirling winds and howling wolves. The creepy reel symbols support an eerie pace and activate different animations when feature bonuses appear, including resurrecting wilds that are unsettling but useful.
Overall, Mysterious brings together atmospheric graphics, colours, animation and sound effects to present a Victorian-era ghost story across the reels.
Top Casinos to Play Mysterious:
Gameplay
In the base mode of Mysterious, spins take place on 4x4 reels with 243-ways-to-win. Triggering the free spins bonus expands the layout to 6x4 and raises it to 4096-ways-to-win.
The base game uses 9 regular symbols that pay for 3 and 4 symbol combinations. During free spins, these symbols can connect into 5 and 6 symbol combinations. Any ghost can substitute as a wild, and each ghost wild may infect the reels with stacked wilds, multipliers or spreading wilds.
In both the base game and free spins, every combination win must begin with the first symbol on reel 1 and continue across adjacent reels from left to right. A 3-symbol combination therefore appears on reels 1-2-3, whereas matching symbols on reels 1-2-4 do not win because reel 3 is empty.
Available controls include volume, quick spins, sound FX, ambient music and battery saver, which reduces animation. The ‘Autoplay’ setting can be configured for between 10 and 100 automatic reel spins.
Bonuses and free spins
Random spin wild symbol modes: Beside the reels, the 3 ghosts of the Mysterious online slot are displayed. The ghost that is active determines the wild-symbol feature you receive.
- The Lord: Multiplies completed wins by x2 or x3
- The Lady: Expands into a mystery stack of symbols
- The Baron: Spreads across adjacent reels, adding more wilds
Free spins: Landing 3 or 4 free-spin scatters awards 8 or 12 free goes on the reels respectively. The reels then switch to 6x4, offering 4,096 ways-to-win and 2 additional features.
- Locking multiplier: A gold clock landing during free spins multiplies all wins by 12, 9, 6 or 3. When 2 land simultaneously, an additional 2 free spins are played immediately with the multipliers locked in place.
- Resurrecting wilds: During free spins, any wild symbol that lands fades away before randomly appearing in another position on a later spin.
Bet sizes, RTP and variance
Betting ranges from 0.10-100.00 per spin. The -/ controls provide ‘Bet’ and ‘Coin Value’ settings. ‘Bet’ runs from level 1 through level 10, with each level playing 10 coins per spin, so Level 10 places 100 coins on the spin bet. ‘Coin Value’ ranges from 0.01 to 1.00. Consequently, 100 coins at level 10 multiplied by the maximum ‘Coin Value’ of 1.00 produces a 100.00 maximum cash bet per spin. Mysterious is listed with an expected RTP of 96.5%, while Pragmatic Play rates its volatility at 5 out 5, indicating high variance gameplay.
Conclusion
Mysterious stands apart from many other slots through its 4x4 reels, which may expand to 6x4 and reach 4096-ways-to-win. The larger layout, locking multiplier and resurrecting wild symbols add notable features during free spins, although the outcome of each spin remains chance-based.
